Effective January 7, 2008 the Disney-MGM Studios has been renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios. In an effort to update the image of the park from a "classic" Hollywood theme to a more modern theme. "The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer - in music, television, movies and theater," said Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort. MGM studios and Disney had been involved in litigation throughout much of the 1990's regarding Disney's contracted use of the name. However, Disney officials deny that the past litigation had any effect on the park's name change.

Several new attractions are planed the the park including:

1) Toy Story Mania (opening Summer 2008): Based on Pixar's Toy Story movies, the new attraction will feature "fanciful ride vehicles" where guests will don 3-D glasses and travel through a virtual environment to participate in midway style games. Guest scores will be recorded as they accumulate points for shooting virtual targets.

2)Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage (February 2008): The current Playhouse Disney-Live on Stage attraction is being renovated to include new characters from Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney programming. New characters will include those from "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse", "Little Einsteins" and "Handy Mandy".
